What is a Safe Space?
When you enter into this place, you become part of a dance community. Like any community, this one is shaped by those who share in it. We endeavor to create an emotionally and physically safe space for all persons to engage in the music, movement, learning, and culture of vernacular jazz and swing dance. The responsibility of this endeavor rests on every single participant in this scene, so we need you to know what a "safe space" is.
An emotionally and physically safe dance space is one in which:
This is our scene and we are proud of it- our scene, our responsibility. It is the duty of each of us to nurture the positive experiences of fellow dancers. If you are ready to share in that responsibility with us, welcome. Make yourself at home; we’re glad you’re here.

An emotionally and physically safe dance space is one in which:
- Each individual has absolute authority over their own body and advocates for boundaries which ensure their own emotional/physical comfort and safety.
- Each individual's expressed boundaries with their own body are fully and immediately adhered to with respect and intention.
- Each individual is responsible for developing self awareness and consciousness of how their actions effect others.
- Each individual complies with the rules and policies of the physical space itself, personal property therein, and any directive set forth by the dance organizers.
This is our scene and we are proud of it- our scene, our responsibility. It is the duty of each of us to nurture the positive experiences of fellow dancers. If you are ready to share in that responsibility with us, welcome. Make yourself at home; we’re glad you’re here.
